3D Printing

The library has a 3D printer available for the public to use to learn about this new technology and bring their ideas to light.  You can learn to operate the printer in our 1-on-1 sessions or speak with our staff about printing a design.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I print my own?

Absolutely! We would love to print a design you have found or created.

2. How much does it cost? and when will it be ready?

We charge $0.10per gram of the final print, an estimated time/weight will be available once we know what you're printing. An average hand size piece will cost approximately $10-20 depending on the print settings and will take 1 day to print.

3. Where do you find designs?

There are many websites and places to get designs. However, an excellent place to start is www.thingiverse.com. This will give you a good overview of the types of printable projects out there and they're all FREE. You can also find other websites by doing a simple search. Not all designs uploaded are printable, and some cost money, so be sure you do your research and read all the information about the design you want to print.

4. Can I print in different colours?

Yes! We have many different filament colours to choose from. However, when printing, your entire design will be one colour when complete. You can paint your design with model paint or acrylic paint if you choose. (Costs may vary for specialty filament.)

5. What kind of printer do you have?

We use the Bambu lab P1S. If you would like to learn more about the slicing software, you can download Bambu Studio.

For all other inquires please call the library and ask for Douglas or register for our 1-on-1 3D Printing Certification

Kids and Teens are welcome to participate in the learning and use the printer but do require someone over the age of 16 with them.

This is a one-hour certification program. Fill out the 3D Certification Form to book an appointment. We will email you to confirm your appointment.
