Salary: $19/hour

Are you organized, creative, and passionate about books? Carstairs and Didsbury Public Libraries are hiring a Summer Student to help transform our Junior and Teen collections into an engaging, reader-friendly dynamic shelving collection.
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in library work, organization, and community-focused services while helping make our collections more accessible and fun to explore.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and define genre categories for Junior and Teen collections

Sort and organize books according to the new dynamic shelving system

Relabel books to reflect new genre and shelving locations

Update library catalogue records to match new shelf locations

Create visually engaging, themed displays
-
Use “face-out” merchandising strategies to promote browsing and discovery

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library space
About Dynamic Shelving
Dynamic shelving is a modern library organization approach that focuses on making collections more inviting and accessible. This includes face-out displays, themed groupings, and intuitive categories designed to make it easier for readers—especially children and teens—to discover and enjoy books.
About You:
We are seeking a post-secondary student who plans to return to full time studies in fall for the position of Summer Programmer for Carstairs Public Library. You are energetic, innovative, and self directed. The ideal candidate will be studying in the fields of Education or Library Sciences but we are open to all fields of study.

About Us:
Didsbury Public Library and Carstairs Public Libraries are located about 20 minutes apart by car. We serve our growing and dynamic towns and the surrounding rural area. This position will spend time in both locations and you will be apart of our two amazing staff teams.

Examples of Jobs our volunteers do:

Board Member - Library board members act as governors for a library, setting the direction and overseeing operations without getting into the day-to-day management. They set policies, decide on strategic plans, set budgets, help fundraise , and advocate for the library.

Shelving Helper - Help out once a week by shelving books, helping dust and straighten shelving units and other tasks.

Seed Library Organizer - seasonally we need some help in the Winter to repackage and organized donated seeds to replenish the seed library for it's early spring launch.

Friends of the Library - Our Friends of the Library are a non-profit charity organization that raises funds for the library. They are always looking for volunteers to help with board positions, book sales, book donation organizing, and maintaining the little free libraries around town.
